Step 1: Place eggs in pot
Place eggs in pot first, then cover with cold water by 1 inch.
Step 2: Boil Eggs
Bring water to a boil over high heat. When the water starts to boil (the water surface starts to bubble vigorously), turn off the heat and cover the pot.
Step 3: Cook for Desired Time
After turning off the heat, leave eggs boiling for desired time. Leave for 7 minutes if you want a medium boiled egg, and 12 minutes if you want a hard boiled egg.
7 minutes 12 minutes
Step 4: Move Eggs to Ice Bath
When your desired time is up, seperate the eggs from the water and move them to a large bowl of ice water. Leave the eggs in the ice bath for at least 10 minutes before you start peeling the eggs. Why the ice bath? The ice bath stops the cooking process, making the eggs easier to peel. Enjoy your eggs!
Want More? Some Quik Tips.
- If you want to decrease the likelihood of the eggs cracking during the cooking process, add a pinch of salt to the water
- If you add too much water, the eggs will cook too fast. Add too little and they’ll cook to slow. Aim to cover the eggs in cold water by 1 inch
- If the yolk of your egg is green, that means the egg is overcooked. This green yolk is caused by sulfur and iron compounds in the eggs reacting to the yolks surface. Good news is that it’s perfectly safe to eat!
- To peel the eggs easier, peel from the base and under water
- To prevent uneven cooking, don’t overcrowd the pot
